This 3 day course and workshop is designed for general surgical pathologists, pathologists with a specialty interest in urologic and pathologists-in-training. The aim of the course is to provide participants with a comprehensive review and update of selected topics in urologic pathology. The lecturers are leaders in the field who will give their perspectives on a variety of subjects, ranging from atypical ductal proliferations to common and unusual tumors and tumor-like lesions of the urologic pathology. There will be opportunities to bring one's own cases for consultation and discussion during the breaks and after the scheduled program. The course includes lectures and slide seminar discussions, and printed and electronic handout materials will be available. 

 

SPEAKERS

Cristina Magi-Galluzzi

M.D., Ph.D. Cleveland Clinic and Lerner Research Institute

Dr. Magi-Galluzzi graduated from University of Ancona, School of Medicine, Italy and received her PhD in Oncologic Human Pathology at the University of Verona, Italy. She has completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago and Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston, and a Kidney-Urologic Pathology fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. In 2003, Dr. Magi-Galluzzi joined the Department of Anatomic Pathology at the Cleveland Clinic as staff pathologist. She is currently Director of Genitourinary Pathology at the Cleveland Clinic and Professor of Pathology at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. She is the President-elect of International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP).

Her clinical expertise is the pathological diagnosis of genitourinary diseases, including prostate, bladder, testis and kidney malignancies. Her research interest focuses on prostate carcinogenesis and in the discovery and validation of tumor markers of value in furthering the goals of successful treatment and understanding of the pathogenesis of genitourinary disease. She is the author of numerous articles (more than 160 publications), invited reviews and book chapters, as well as the editor of two books on genitourinary pathology. She has presented and lectured extensively at national and international meetings and has conducted national and international courses, workshops and slide seminars in urological pathology.

 

Ming Zhou

M.D. Ph.D. NYU Medical Center Tisch Hospital, New York

Ming Zhou, MD, PhD, is currently a Professor of Pathology and Urology and the director of Surgical Pathology and Urological Pathology at New York University School of Medicine and Hospitals.

He graduated summa cum laude from Fudan University Medical School in Shanghai, China. He did his pathology residency training and counted Drs. Sharon Weiss, Henry

Appelman and Mark Rubin as his mentors at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. He completed a fellowship in the Urological and Kidney Diseases with Dr. Jonathan Epstein at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Before he moved to NYU, he was an Associate Professor and staff pathologist at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio.

He has devoted his clinical and research effort to diagnostic urological pathology, and discovery and validation of tumor markers for urological malignancy. He has authored over 170 research articles and numerous book chapters, and is the editor of 4 textbooks of urological pathology and prostate pathology. He serves on the Cancer Committee of the College of American Pathologists and is the primary author of the genitourinary cancer protocols. He is the treasurer of the International Society of Urological Pathology. He also serves on the editorial board of several pathology journals, including Modern Pathology.
